Dressing Prongs
Prong settings are the most common type of mounting style used in gemstones jewellery. They are versatile and provide excellent security for holding your stones in place. The concept for this style of mounting is very simple. Prongs are small strips of metal in a form of a basket-like cradle to hold your stone. After seating your stone inside the prongs, these are bent towards the stone to hold it securely in place. Prongs that are too long need to be trimmed and finished by rounding up their edges.
