Open Jump Ring in Sterling Silver
The sterling silver jump ring is an open jump ring. It has a breaking point along the circumference that you use to open and close the ring.
To attach a jewelry component to an open jump ring, use small pair of pliers to open and close the jump ring. The proper way is to hold one of the jump ring breaking point and push the other opening end in the opposite direction. The breaking points must never be pulled apart because doing so will distort the ring and make it weaker. You can use the jump ring with earrings, charms, beads, chains, bails, and more.
Common gauges for a jump ring range from 18-gauge (thick) to 22-gauge (thin).
The jump ring is available in three dimensions:
- RC040A - jump ring outside diameter: 4mm ::: weight: 0.04 gram ::: gauge: 21
- RC040B - jump ring outside diameter: 4mm ::: weight: 0.053 gram ::: gauge: 20
- RC040C - jump ring outside diameter: 4.6mm ::: weight: 0.07 gram ::: gauge: 20
The jump ring size and gauge are approximate.
